Wine importing and wholesale
Carbon footprint
The aim is to become a carbon-neutral company in the next two years.
Staff welfare & progression
We invest in our staff welfare and progression by providing them with training and education opportunities. We started with a new apprenticeship programme in 2020, and we aim to grow that programme by opening more apprenticeship opportunities. Furthermore, we promote within the company whenever possible to allow our employees to flourish. We have a very good track record of employee retention with some of our team members being with us for over 20 years.
Use of renewables
We added our first fully electric delivery van to our fleet in 2021. There are three further new electric cars ordered for the sales team. The next step is the installation of solar panels on the roofs of our buildings.
Waste management and recycling
We are avid recyclers and we hope to streamline our efforts to reduce paper use within our company going forward.
Packaging
We are moving away from the use of plastic in our delivery packaging to more sustainable solutions. Also, we are looking at bottling our first wines in recycled paper-based bottles.
Community focused activities
EWGA Wines tries to be very involved in the local community, from donating prizes to local charities and paying for travel grants for local children, to sponsoring local sports teams.
Looking ahead, what are the longer-term company goals?
Carbon Footprint
To achieve this goal, we will work with an external agency to measure how much carbon we contribute to the environment and offset any carbon that we cannot eliminate from our activities.
Staff welfare & progression
The training and education for our staff can be verified with appropriate certificates. We work with colleges to give apprenticeship opportunities that are beneficial for their students, and the growth will be evident in the next two to three years when we open the programme to other departments. We want to continue to promote within and keep up our good track record of employee retention.
Use of renewables
The receipt of new electric vehicles is imminent and we will also install electric car chargers to ensure we can charge the cars without having to travel just to charge our vehicles. The solar panels should be installed within the next couple of years.
Waste management and recycling
We should be able to measure our improvement of waste management and recycling by looking at invoices from waste management companies and seeing if we reduced the amount of print we conduct on our office printers.
Packaging
All plastic use should be eradicated from our wine deliveries by the end of 2022. The first bottling of wine in recycled paper-based bottles is planned to happen within the next three years.
Community focused activities
Our target is to be involved in at least five community initiatives each year for the next five years.
