Independent Wine and Spirit Merchant
As a SME we have been implementing a gradual plan to reduce our environmental impact. For example, we have recently invested in a new company van which is 100% electric, taking advantage of government schemes to help with the transition. Across our four sites we have worked with local partners and the council to improve our recycling processes. In addition, we have stopped using non-recyclable packaging and actively avoid listing wines which come in unnecessarily heavy glass bottles. We're looking to appoint a 'green champion' internally to review all of our processes and operations to see where we can make more positive changes to offset our impact on the environment.
Looking ahead, what are the longer-term company goals?
Carbon footprint
We work towards going paperless where we can in relation to accounting and paperwork within the next five years.
Staff welfare and progression
We have signed up to the Cycle to Work scheme and encourage all staff to join the scheme with the company should it be a suitable option for them.
Waste Management & recycling
Work with our partners at First Mile to track our waste reports on an annual basis, looking to reduce our total amount of waste generated year on year.
Packaging
We have already moved away from non-recycled packaging. For example, we use pulp inners for our courier deliveries and reuse wine boxes for local deliveries and customer collections. Within the next 12 months we aim to fully transition to non-plastic bags, including reusable tote bags and paper alternatives.
Green Tech
Reduce our reliance on paper and printer ink by finding new software solutions which make integration between our stores more digital. We have also adopted a new software platform - Roadwarrior - to make our delivery routes more efficient.
