Carbon footprint
We are in the process of collecting our Scope 3 emissions in addition to Scope 1 and 2, and looking at how we can put a roadmap in to cut these and hopefully become net zero over time.
Renewables
Currently 1 out of 3 locations are using renewable energy, we are exploring moving to 100% renewable energy, including the use of self-sufficient power such as solar panels.
Waste management & recycling
We are investigating how to become 'zero to landfill'.
Packaging
Currently reviewing all recycled content of our packaging in order to set goals around the sustainability of our packaging in all areas.
Staff welfare & progression
In 2021 we launched an Employee Assistance Program. This program provides information, advice and counselling on a variety of personal and workplace issues. The service is paid for by Virgin Wines and is provided by an external company called Wellbeing Solutions. Mental health is something we put a lot of focus on, especially after the last few years. We put 12 members of the leadership team through mental health awareness training with 'Mind', which gives managers the tools to support employees suffering with their mental health, but also to spot signs in employees who might need extra help.
Diversity and Inclusion
We have launched an internal D&I campaign called 'Together we can' where we aim to educate employees and celebrate key events throughout the year such as International Women's Day and Pride. We are also putting in place initiatives such as adding pro-nouns to email and educating people why. We have a regular calendar of employee engagement surveys to continuously monitor and improve the culture and support we give as a company.
Community
Supporting organisations within different communities such as the drinks community (partner of The Drinks Trust), our local community (we support Leeway a Norfolk based domestic abuse charity, voted for by employees as our 2022 charity of the year), and communities in the places we work (we are about to launch support of Bright Start a charity based in South Africa giving children from impoverished communities the chance of the quality education they deserve so they can dream of a better future).
Looking ahead, what are the longer-term company goals?
Next few years:
Achieving zero to landfill
Moving to 100% recycled content for our cardboard boxes
Continue to develop our work in the community and improving employee wellbeing and inclusivity work
Longer term:
We would like to explore becoming net-zero so will be measuring emissions annually to see where we can and have improved.
