Wine importing and wholesale business, specialising in small family owned, organic or sustainably farmed producers
Carbon footprint
We have worked hard on understanding our carbon footprint and looking at ways of reducing our impact on the environment.
We are a virtual business, with no head office or premises.
The sales force are incentivised to plan each and every journey carefully, maximising efficiency and minimising mileage to optimise value from our time on the road. Where possible virtual tastings and online meetings are held. We have investigated looking at off-setting sales mileage and whilst this is an avenue we are still looking at, the reduction in mileage is our first port of call. Where possible train journeys are encouraged.
We believe we have chosen the most sustainable logistics partner in DPD. They have recently switched all HGVs to renewable biofuel with an 87% reduction in CO2 emissions. DPD ensure all vehicles are full and most efficient and sustainable routes planned.
Staff welfare & progression
At Wanderlust we are a small and agile team, everyone has a voice and a platform to be heard and listened to. We make decisions as a team with all opinions discussed and considered. Our most important asset is the people who work with us and creating an environment where they feel trusted and valued is incredibly important. Each and every team member is incentivised to own a part of the business, with Key performance indicators aligned to them achieving this goal.
Use of renewables
With no premises to consider, our goal is to work alongside our warehousing and logistical partners in promoting the use of renewable energy. This has started with DPD and Biofuel and we will be encouraging our warehouse partner to review the options available to them.
Alongside the above, in 2023 Wanderlust Wine plans to import wine by the most renewable energy source of all, the wind, with a wine by sail range finalised and first shipment planned.
Waste management and recycling
All cardboard and glass is recycled. We have worked very hard in the reduction of our paper usage. All invoicing is online with Proof of delivery uploaded onto the DPD platform and sent via email to customers.
Packaging
All of our packaging is 100% recyclable.
We are working with our supply base to offer alternative formats, from bag-in-box wine to larger bottles and key kegs. Not only do alternative formats reduce packaging, they are lighter to ship and transport and finally in the case of a key keg, designed to be a circular product used again and again.
Drinks Portfolio
The portfolio is sourced from small family owned, organic and/or sustainably farmed producers. The priority is always to source organically farmed wines, we have a policy of not buying wine if spraying of chemical products has been used. We believe in long term partnerships with all of our producers, working with them to distribute their wines into the right places, this means in paying fairly and timely and ensuring they are involved in all aspects of selling their wines.
GOALS
We understand we are very much at the beginning of our sustainability journey. Moving forwards the impact on our environment and on becoming a more sustainable business will be considered in all the decisions we make.
The goal for 2023 is for all tasting events to be waste free.
The immediate goal is to truly understand the impact of our business on the environment and action the quick wins. To this end Wanderlust Wine will commission a Carbon Footprint Calculation report in 2023.
Building on that we will then look at accreditation to endorse and guide our green credentials with either ISO14001 or B-Corp.
